Future directions in music
MCO is very interested in the development of community music. Areas of interest
include:
- Regional touring - taking the music to regional and remote communities which
wouldn't normally get to hear great classical music let alone see a full symphony
orchestra.
- Opera and choral collaboration - Working with other community musicians,
choirs and groups to provide opera works, choral symphonies and other musical
works of interest.
- Composer-in-residence - MCO is interested in working with up-and-coming
composers to produce new symphonic works here in Canberra.
- Chamber and ensemble - A wonderful area of classical music which gives the
opportunity to members of the MCO to further expand their music horizons.
- Music Workshops - This is an essential ingredient of a successful community
music organisation as it gives opportunities to a far great range of people in
the community who are wishing to explore their musicality, extend their skills
and to develop skills in new areas within the music range.
